Kelantan 2007

This is was my assignment to the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Kelantan sits at the northern tip of Malaysia, next to Southern Thailand. It is considered the a conservative Islamic state. It is the only state ruled by the
Pan Malaysian Islamic Party. I stayed mostly in the northern city of Kota Bharu during the end of March and beginning of April. Again, my concentration was from a Chinese perspective.

This was my first time in Malaysia. I'd also stopped by Penang and Kuala Lumpur for another assignment. I found Malaysia more Chinese than I initially thought. To see the Chinese language being taught at a public primary school alongside English and Malay was an awakening. I now see why my Malaysian co-workers are quick to pickup other languages. Today, picking up a language is picking up an invaluable asset; absolutely essential for a global citizen.
